Just finished a great week with a wonderful little girl from New York City. The past couple of years Lori and I have hosted a child through the
Fresh Air Fund. If you haven't heard of this, you really need to check it out. It's a great way to impact a child in such a simple way. The kids are bussed up to a drop off point near you and you spend a week, sometimes two, together, basically a summer vacation trip for them out of the city. You take them places that they've likely never seen. Our little girl this year, even though she'd been to 3 previous places, still had lots of firsts. We picked black raspberries and blackberries from the bushes in back - a first. We pulled carrots from the garden - a first - and what a look of surprise when she saw what came out when she pulled on those tops!! We even ended up going to Maine for a day and took her for lobster (she says not her first, but I think it was her first whole lobster in the shell. When they dropped it in front of her, she was definitely surprised by what she saw.)
We get just as much out of the experience as the kids. If you've done Fresh Air, what's your experience been like?
